Rockstar Games has officially announced GTA VI The Album, a 34-track record of original music made for Grand Theft Auto 6, and it arrives November 19, the same day the game launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The announcement came September 17 through a joint reveal with Atlantic Records, which is co-producing the project. Six of the 34 songs are already streaming, and vinyl and CD pre-orders went live the same afternoon.

The full tracklist stays secret for now, but the six released singles show how wide Rockstar is casting the net. Yung Lean teams with Future and Metro Boomin on "That's It," Travis Scott's "RHYNO" was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, one half of Daft Punk, and "Sexy Magic" is a five-way collaboration between CA7RIEL and Paco Amoroso, PinkPantheress, Fred again.., and Étienne de Crécy. Morgan Wallen contributes "Last Thing You Need," Rauw Alejandro adds "Macacoa 2000," and Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards closes out the revealed batch with "Bright Lights, Big City." That run covers rap, pop, electronic, country, Latin, and rock in six songs, which is exactly the point: Leonida is a big fictional state, and its soundtrack is trying to sound like one.

The vinyl sold out in under an hour

The physical editions are where things got chaotic. Rockstar and Atlantic put together 11 vinyl variants and two CD editions, and pre-orders opened September 17. According to NME's reporting, the limited-edition version, two transparent magenta discs filled with blue liquid plus exclusive artwork, sold out in less than an hour at its original price of £108.99. Within a day, scalpers had the same record listed on eBay for £220 to £490, with completed sales landing between £215 and £315.

That resale frenzy also exposed the announcement's most controversial detail. GTA VI The Album is getting CDs, vinyl, and streaming releases, but Grand Theft Auto 6 itself will not get a proper physical edition: Rockstar confirmed the game will ship as a download code in a box rather than a disc. Fans noticed the contradiction immediately. "The irony to release this on disc but not the game itself," one fan wrote in reply to Rockstar's announcement, as ComicBook reported, and the replies kept coming in the same vein. A 34-track soundtrack gets eleven vinyl variants while the game it was made for ships as a code in a box.

Six songs streaming now, 28 still secret

The remaining 28 tracks have not been named, which has turned the next two months into a guessing game. Each of the six released singles holds a numbered slot on the album, from Yung Lean's opener at track 2 through Keith Richards at track 32, so fans have been mapping the gaps and speculating about who fills them. The album can be pre-saved on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Deezer, Tidal, and Amazon Music, per Consequence, which also notes the game is available for pre-order on Xbox and PlayStation 5 with pre-loads starting November 12.

Rockstar says more music news is coming. The press release describes GTA VI The Album as "34 original tracks that capture the electric energy of Grand Theft Auto 6's world of Vice City and Leonida, with a genre-defying roster of the most exciting and preeminent artists in the world," according to NME, and the studio is promising details on "the dynamic score, the next evolution of the pioneering in-game radio stations, and more" as launch approaches. For a series whose radio stations have launched real careers and defined fictional cities since the early 2000s, the in-game audio was never going to be an afterthought. But this is the first time Rockstar has treated the soundtrack as a standalone commercial product with its own release window, retail exclusives, and chart ambitions.

Why an album at all

It helps that games and music have been converging for years. Cyberpunk's anime spinoff proved a game soundtrack could carry a whole second life as an album and a cultural event, as covered in the Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 announcement, and streaming has made game music one of the most reliable genres on playlists. GTA VI The Album is Rockstar formalizing something fans were already doing: treating Vice City's sound as a thing worth owning, not just background noise between missions. The liquid-filled vinyl selling out in an hour suggests the bet will pay off, even if some buyers were scalpers.

The calendar from here is simple. The game and GTA VI The Album both land November 19, with pre-loads beginning November 12. Between now and then, expect the remaining 28 artists to be revealed one drop at a time, because Rockstar has never missed a chance to stretch out a hype cycle. The six released singles are streaming now; everything else arrives on launch day. The launch will also flood game streams, in a year when streaming records keep falling: Streamer University 2026 was the biggest IRL stream ever.
