The Tiger Shroff shooting has rattled Bollywood after gunmen opened fire on the actor's car in Mumbai on Sunday evening, and by Monday three suspects were already in custody. Shroff was not hit by a bullet, but his driver was hurt, and the attack has pulled a notorious gang back into the headlines.
What happened in Juhu
According to BBC News, the thirty-six-year-old actor was leaving a football ground in the Juhu suburb after his regular practice session when he was shot at. Videos showed at least two men firing multiple shots at close range at the front passenger seat of his car while it moved slowly past a crowd.
Police said two people were injured, including Shroff's driver. Reports differ on how many rounds were fired, with early accounts saying three or four and the police complaint reportedly listing more, so the exact count is still being pieced together. The attack happened close to the Juhu police station, which makes it feel even bolder.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Shroff at home that night. Photos showed the actor with bandages on his upper body, and Shinde said he and his mother were shaken. Shinde added that attempts to intimidate people would not be tolerated and that the state would end what he called hooliganism.
Three arrests in a day
The speed of the response is a big part of this story. According to The Times of India, the Anti-Gangster Task Force and Rajasthan Police arrested three men on a train at Kota railway station while it travelled from Mumbai toward Delhi.
The paper reports that the accused include a seventeen-year-old from Sonipat in Haryana, a twenty-two-year-old bike taxi rider living in Andheri West, and an eighteen-year-old from Sonipat. Investigators believe the suspects scouted the area and knew the actor visits the ground on Sundays. They allegedly fled on a motorcycle, dumped it near Andheri West station and boarded a train.
A case has been registered against three unidentified people under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, and the Mumbai Crime Branch has taken over the probe. Police have said they are still working out who ordered the attack, so the arrests are only the first step.
The gang claim
Indian media have widely reported an audio clip in which a man claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang says the group is responsible. BBC News notes that the recording has not been independently verified and that police have not confirmed any gang involvement. That caveat matters, because gangs have been known to claim attacks for the publicity.
Still, the claim has revived old fears. Bishnoi is in a high-security prison in Gujarat, yet his network has been linked by reporting to the two thousand twenty-four gun attack on Salman Khan's home and the murder of politician Baba Siddique. Salman Khan's Bandra residence has now reportedly received extra security.
Bollywood asks for protection
The All Indian Cine Workers Association condemned the attack and said gangsters seem to be targeting film industry people to create an atmosphere of fear and to extort money. The union said the industry should not have to work under the shadow of fear and asked for better security for workers and their families.
Opposition leaders have used the incident to attack the state government, while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called it serious and condemnable and promised that the police would act fast. That political back-and-forth is likely to continue as long as celebrity safety in Mumbai stays in question.
Why this one hits different
Shroff is a rare kind of star: an action hero known for dance and martial arts who also plays professional football, and he was shot at while doing something ordinary, playing a sport on a Sunday. For fans his age, the attack feels less like a movie plot and more like a warning about how exposed public figures can be.
For now, the facts that are solid in the Tiger Shroff shooting are simple. Shroff survived, his driver was injured, and three suspects are in custody within about a day. What is still unknown is who gave the order, whether the gang claim is real, and whether the arrests will calm an industry that is clearly on edge.
