Protests in Sydney brought thousands to the streets during Israeli President Isaac Herzog's official visit. Approximately 5,000 protesters assembled at Hyde Park before marching to the Sydney Opera House.
Protest Details
Demonstrators called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The protest remained mostly peaceful with three arrests for minor offenses. Herzog arrived February 7 for a three-day visit, meeting Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Security Response
NSW Police deployed 800 officers. Barricades separated pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel demonstrators. Several roads around the Opera House were closed for two hours.
