Sony has revealed the October 2026 PlayStation Plus Games: F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896, and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2. According to the official PlayStation Blog announcement, all three become claimable on October 6, 2026, and remain available through November 2, 2026 — nearly four weeks to add them to your library at no extra cost.

The reveal landed September 30, 2026, in a post by Adam Michel, Sony Interactive Entertainment's senior director of content acquisition and operations. The headline pitch is variety: a licensed racing sim, a gothic extraction shooter, and a deliberately unserious voxel co-op game, each built for a different kind of player.

First up is F1 25, the official game of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship. Career mode and My Team 2.0 return for solo drivers, letting players run their own team through a season, while the new F1 World mode lets friends race as a squad against AI drivers. Racing sims can be intimidating, but this is the most approachable on-ramp the series has offered in years — and with the subscription covering the cost, there is no reason not to take it for a spin.

The horror pick is Hunt: Showdown 1896, Crytek's PvPvE extraction shooter set in corrupted backwaters lost to history. Players race rival Hunters to track down bosses, send them to hell, claim the bounty, and fight their way to extraction — solo, or with up to two teammates. The official announcement calls it "addictively unforgiving," and the timing is clearly deliberate: it arrives right in the middle of spooky season.

Rounding out the trio is Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2, the voxel-style co-op shooter where a square Earth faces invasion by giant enemies. Players rescue scattered teammates, build a four-soldier squad drawn from mainline and spin-off EDF characters, and fight redesigned voxel versions of classic foes with four-player online co-op or two-player local split-screen. It is also the only one of the three playable on PS4; the other two require a PS5.

Which one should you actually download?

Short answer: claim all three, since adding them to your library costs nothing and they stay yours as long as the subscription is active. If hard-drive space forces a choice, here is how these PlayStation Plus Games stack up:

Don't sleep on September's games

Timing matters more than usual this month. Subscribers have until October 5, 2026, to claim September's four titles — Sniper Elite: Resistance, MLB The Show 26, Wobbly Life, and Chained Echoes — before they rotate out. Miss that cutoff and they are gone from the free offer for good.

October 6, 2026October games become claimable
November 2, 2026October games rotate out

Why this month matters — and the honest counterpoint

For subscribers, the smart move is treating the claim button as a two-tap insurance policy: add the games now, download them whenever. The racing sim is the sleeper pick of these PlayStation Plus Games — a full-price sports title at zero marginal cost is exactly what the subscription tier exists for.

The counterpoint is real, though. Last-gen owners get just one game this month, and extraction shooters are an acquired taste — the whole loop is risking your gear and occasionally losing everything. Still, as reported by tech coverage of the announcement, this is being called one of the stronger lineups of the year, and the genre spread means most players will find at least one keeper.

Sony is sweetening the month beyond the games, too: horror-themed in-game packs are rolling out for spooky season, including a starter pack for the extraction shooter that lands the same day it becomes claimable.

October is stacked beyond the freebies

The subscription drop is not the only thing keeping PlayStation owners busy. Coverage of October's PlayStation release calendar points to Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve on October 2, Star Wars: Galactic Racer on October 6, Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival on October 8, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on October 23. Reporting on the cloud gaming side notes GeForce NOW is adding 25 games this month, including Gears of War: E-Day and a remastered Witcher 3 — a reminder that the subscription wars extend well past Sony's walls.

Either way, these PlayStation Plus Games are worth the two minutes it takes to claim them. More from the tech and games beat.
