The Louis Theroux Podcast is now a weekly show. Its ninth series launched on Wednesday, October 14, with Spotify and Mindhouse Studios doubling the episode output so new installments land every week, ATV Today reported.

The expansion keeps the format that turned the show into a chart regular. Theroux settles in for long, unhurried conversations with people who rarely give this much of themselves to an interviewer, and the new run of the Louis Theroux podcast promises more of that, only more often. Podcasting Today reported that audio episodes will be available on every major podcast platform, with video versions streaming exclusively on Spotify.

Who made the guest list

The ninth series opens with eight announced guests, and the lineup reads like Theroux's contacts list brought to life. Heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury, writer and broadcaster Jon Ronson, poet and performer John Cooper Clarke, Monty Python legend Eric Idle, actor and former footballer Vinnie Jones, author and activist Naomi Klein, and Hollywood director and comedian Judd Apatow all sit down for episodes, according to ATV Today.

The eighth name on the list is the surprise. Megan Phelps-Roper, who Theroux first interviewed for his television documentary The Most Hated Family in America, returns as a crossover guest. Phelps-Roper, a former member of the Westboro Baptist Church, has since become an author and podcaster in her own right. Podcasting Today reported that her appearance marks the first time one of Theroux's TV documentary subjects has crossed over into the Louis Theroux Podcast. More guests are still to be announced.

Theroux broke the news to listeners in his usual deadpan style, telling them the podcast was back and joking that they were "losers" who would "lose" their minds once they heard the lineup. He rattled through the guest names in one breathless list, stopping only to promise there were still more to come.

Why Spotify is doubling down on the Louis Theroux podcast

The move is the latest sign that video now sits at the center of podcast strategy. Keeping the video episodes exclusive to Spotify gives fans a reason to watch inside its app, while the audio feeds remain free everywhere else. It is the same playbook behind the industry's biggest audio deals, from Joe Rogan's long-running Spotify arrangement to Netflix pulling Barstool's sports shows off YouTube, both of which GenZ NewZ covered here and here.

The track record justifies the bet. The Louis Theroux Podcast has ranked among the leading shows in podcast charts across multiple territories since it launched in 2023, according to ATV Today, and eight series in three years have made it one of the most dependable interview shows in British audio.

The back catalogue explains the loyalty. Florence Pugh has talked through the complications of filming intimacy scenes, Gary Lineker has spoken openly about his BBC departure, and Boris Becker has revisited his time in prison. Steve Coogan described the lengths he went to in order to play Jimmy Savile in The Reckoning, down to wearing Savile's own shoes, while earlier series also featured Malala Yousafzai, Sharon Stone, Nick Cave, Tracey Emin, Bella Ramsey and Jimmy Carr.

The investment fits a wider pattern at Spotify, which keeps building new formats around its biggest audio properties. The platform recently handed playlist curation to an AI assistant, as GenZ NewZ reported here. For listeners, the calculation is simpler: a new Louis Theroux Podcast episode arrives every week, and the queue of guests lining up to talk to him does not look short.

What the weekly run looks like

The show's own pitch for the new schedule is simple. Its listing on podcast platforms promises "double the episodes... double the fun," telling listeners to join Louis weekly, with video available exclusively on Spotify and the audio feed free everywhere else. The first weekly episode of the Louis Theroux podcast has already landed, and with further guests still unannounced, the rest of series nine will fill out through the autumn. For a show that took three years to release eight series, a new episode every week is a sharp acceleration, and the caliber of the names already announced suggests Theroux is treating the extra airtime as an opportunity rather than a chore.
