Rockstar Games opened pre-orders on September 24 for a premium GTA 6 collectible set that costs $399.99 and does not include the game. The set, called Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, was announced on Rockstar Newswire and in a post on the studio's X account. The announcement described it as "a premium Grand Theft Auto VI collectible set featuring all the essentials for a good time, inspired by Leonida's hit TV show, Macca the Gator," according to heistatlas, which tracked the official listing. The Rockstar Store page states directly that Grand Theft Auto VI is sold separately.
What is inside the box
The box holds eleven items built around Macca the Gator, a fictional alligator television personality who has become one of the most visible mascots in GTA 6's promotion. The centerpiece is a six-inch Macca figure with a stash compartment hidden in its base. Around it sit matte black Oakley Frogskins sunglasses with Prizm Sapphire lenses, a New Era 9FORTY A-Frame snapback, and a Leonida Keys crossbody bag. The remaining items are a Macca magnetic mirror, a Chunkee the Manatee shot glass, a Vice City swizzle spoon, a razor-blade-shaped keychain, nine enamel pins packed in a metal tin, a set of vinyl stickers in a stash bag, and a double-sided poster showing Vice City artwork on one side and a full map of Leonida on the other.
The terms are strict. The Rockstar Store limits the box to one per person and says stock is available only while supplies last, and shipping is charged separately. Nothing leaves the warehouse before November 19, which the store gives as the ship date. In the United Kingdom the price is £349.99, according to GamingBible, as reported by heistatlas. A user on GTAForums who spotted the listing before the announcement said the box weighs 10 kilograms.
The game is a separate purchase
Rockstar sells two editions of GTA 6 itself: Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99. The physical release of the game ships as a download code in a box rather than a disc, as reported by Polygon. So a fan who wants both the collector's box and a copy of GTA 6 on launch day is looking at two purchases, pushing the total well past the box price alone.
That math is at the center of the community response. TalkEsport reported that threads on social media filled with complaints within hours of the reveal, with some users posting screenshots of cancelled pre-orders. Much of the criticism centers on the feeling that several pieces, especially the mirror, the swizzle spoon, and the razor-blade keychain, are close to merchandise Rockstar sold decades ago with the original Vice City, which drew complaints at the time for its references to cocaine imagery.
Another point of frustration is the box's still-available status. GTA 6 merchandise usually sells through quickly, and the fact that the collector's box had not sold out days after launch was being read by fans as a sign of how mixed the reception has been, according to TalkEsport. Fans also began 3D-printing their own versions of the Macca the Gator figure, with printable files circulating within a day of the official photos going live, as reported by epicflix.
What this tells us about the launch
Rockstar has confirmed that more apparel and collectibles from the GTA 6 collection are coming to its store, although it has not publicly detailed the full clothing range. The announcement is part of a steady build of merchandise around the game ahead of the GTA 6 launch in November: a branded PlayStation 5 controller has been reported for sale, and an official soundtrack album was announced, with the limited vinyl version priced at $125 reportedly selling out in multiple markets.
The collector's box episode is a rare marketing misstep in what has otherwise been one of the most anticipated launches in game history. Macca the Gator has been part of GTA 6's material since June, when the Ultimate Edition's Goodtime Gear clothing brand named the alligator as its mascot, and the box was clearly meant to cement the character's place in the franchise's mythology. Instead, the price and the missing game turned the conversation toward value, and Rockstar is still waiting for the box to sell out.
