Gucci's creative director Demna finally showed Milan what a year of studying the brand looks like. On Friday, September 25, 2026, he presented the house's Spring/Summer 2027 collection in a set of neutral-tone, retail-inspired rooms the brand billed as "The store show," calling it his first complete personal vision for Gucci. Models walked through what looked like a working boutique, a glimpse, the house said, of how his aesthetic could shape Gucci stores in the future, according to Reuters.

This was the third show from the Georgian designer, whose full name is Demna Gvasalia, since his appointment in March 2025 after the departure of Sabato De Sarno. His debut collection was loud on purpose, with Kate Moss and Emily Ratajkowski walking in sparkling gowns and skin-tight separates, and his resort show in New York leaned the same way. The Spring/Summer outing was set firmly in the daytime: store hours. "Gucci moves easily between aristocracy and pop culture, Florence and Hollywood, good taste and bad taste (whatever that means), heritage and mass desire, belonging and rebellion, and the interplay between the two," Demna said, according to Reuters.

Tailoring first, then the attitude

The show opened with menswear, and the message was tailoring. Monochromatic black-and-white suiting with pagoda shoulders came first, followed by cropped, puff-shaped outerwear, tartan-lined jackets, and trousers cut short enough to show the ankle. Triple-buckle belts gave the suits a rock-and-roll finish. Then came prep: regular-fit white khakis, a tan Harrington jacket, a quilted navy jacket, and blazers worn over striped polo shirts and sweaters, according to Hypebeast, which noted the range was subdued next to Demna's earlier spectacles.

Gucci's signature horsebit was everywhere, but reworked. Hypebeast spotted a recurring triple-stacked horsebit belt, a supersized horsebit detail on trousers, and horsebit pocket buttons on shirting and outerwear. Leather showed up heavily in jackets and accessories, along with red-and-green striped and monogrammed pieces that nod to the house codes without shouting them.

Womenswear channeled Milanese office style of the nineteen eighties with a punk streak. Classic black suits were cut to bare the midriff, leather coats were worn with a scarf or thrown over enormous furs, and some looks piled on chains around the neck, according to FashionUnited. Asymmetrical evening gowns added the glamour. In a pre-show Instagram post, Demna wrote that the collection represented "my complete personal vision for the brand" after one year studying it, adding that "Gucci stands for being rooted in the idea of belonging to a more glamorous world and in the audacity to remake that world in your own image," FashionUnited reported.

The business behind the spectacle

Kering, Gucci's parent company, needs this era to land. Sales at the flagship label fell three percent in the second quarter, a smaller drop than expected, as strong demand in the United States for new handbags partly offset weaker spending elsewhere, according to Reuters. The label has disappointed for several years after the boom years under Alessandro Michele, and the slower rate of decline suggests the turnaround may be gaining traction.

One piece of the recovery plan is already controversial. Reuters reported this week that Gucci has begun selling luxury sneaker models labeled "Made in China," a break with its Italian manufacturing tradition. Some industry watchers say the move could undercut the brand's high-end image as it races to win back middle-class shoppers. Friday's show, with its focus on stores and wearable product, was Demna's clearest signal yet that his answer is product people actually want to buy.

A front row that dressed for the theme

The Demna Gucci store show pulled a crowd that understood the assignment. Cardi B arrived in a black lace bodysuit with sheer, patterned Gucci tights, pointed heels, silver monogram earrings, and an enormous white shearling coat from the brand's cruise collection, finishing the look with a black bowl-cut wig with blunt bangs, a sharp change from her usual curls, according to InStyle. The night before she had attended the Roberto Cavalli show in a tiger-print gown with a fur hem and plunging neckline, went braless, and added a gold snake collar necklace with tinted sunglasses.

Tennis star Aryna Sabalenka and model Georgina Rodríguez compared engagement rings in the front row, with Sabalenka joking she wanted to photograph Rodríguez's ring to show her fiance "what actually has to happen," according to People. Sabalenka wore a white satin suit. Rodríguez, who got engaged to Cristiano Ronaldo last August, wore a fitted black leather blazer with a matching mini skirt.

Milan Fashion Week opened on Tuesday with Prada's show and its eight-floor Milan flagship and runs through Sunday, with Dolce and Gabbana, Bottega Veneta, and Giorgio Armani still to present, according to Reuters. A week earlier in New York, the season's other big talking point was joyful dressing taking over from quiet luxury. Demna's answer from Milan was quieter than his debut: a working store as the runway, and clothes designed to be bought.
