The Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast packed its showcase into one dense program, delivering 17 fresh gameplay reveals, new announcements, a surprise release, and one world premiere. The presentation, published on September 17 by Xbox Wire, drew on games from Activision, Bethesda, Kojima Productions, Koei Tecmo, and Sega, and it arrived as Xbox marks 25 years of the brand and more than two decades in Japan.
The biggest moment came at the very end. Legendary game creator Hideo Kojima appeared for the broadcast's traditional one more thing segment, where he shared updates on two of his projects, OD – KNOCK and PHYSINT, and confirmed that Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård will play the lead role in PHYSINT. A new poster for the title featuring Skarsgård and Charlee Fraser was unveiled during the segment, according to Xbox Wire. The casting gives PHYSINT its first major on-screen identity as the espionage project moves forward under Xbox Game Studios.
Beyond the finale, the show leaned heavily on release dates and new trailers. Activision revealed a new campaign trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which launches October 23, 2026, with Campaign Early Access opening October 16 for players who pre-order the Standard Digital Edition or the Vault Edition. Bethesda showed an animated trailer for Fallout 76's latest update, The Slasher, which is available now and brings an eerie multi-week storyline involving masked murders, infestations, and unmarked graves, plus a new Power Armor set and a Super Slasher weapon for players who corner the villain behind the spree.
Kojima's finale stole the show
Kojima's appearance closed the broadcast with exactly the kind of spectacle the director is known for. Xbox Wire reported that the segment included fresh updates on both OD – KNOCK and PHYSINT, but the PHYSINT casting reveal dominated the conversation. Skarsgård, known for playing Pennywise in the It films, now fronts Kojima's return to espionage-themed game design, with the newly shared poster putting him alongside co-star Charlee Fraser.
The timing matters because PHYSINT has already had an unusual development path, having been announced as a major Kojima project before moving to Xbox Game Studios as publisher. With a recognizable lead actor attached, the project has taken its clearest step yet toward becoming a tangible release, and the Tokyo Game Show stage gave Xbox a high-profile moment to mark that transition.
The biggest reveals beyond the finale
The rest of the broadcast covered a broad spread of genres. Serenity Forge unveiled the world premiere of Faraday Blues, a surreal sci-fi adventure about a daughter searching for parents who do not know she exists. Players collect and play character cards to rewrite tragic choices across three interconnected visual novels, with decisions carrying forward through three eras and 64 reality-altering endings. The game is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and cloud, with Xbox Play Anywhere support.
Netmarble showed new gameplay for Bloomwalker, which is now officially part of the beloved Ni No Kuni universe, and revealed its Pocket Dimension, a self-contained area inside the Moving House where players can build and customize a home alongside familiars and Higgledies. Sega revealed that Japan will be one of the locations in Crazy Taxi: World Tour, blending historic neighborhoods with the energy of the modern city when the game arrives in 2027.
Atlus released the latest character trailer for Persona 4 Revival, the remake of the classic Persona 4, introducing detective Naoto Shirogane. The game is scheduled for February 18, 2027, and will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and cloud, included with Game Pass. Team Ninja's Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember showed off a boss fight against the demon Zuochi, and its Alpha Demo is playable until September 30, with the full game launching March 4, 2027.
Surprises and dates to circle
The broadcast's biggest surprise was a shadow drop: Shape of Dreams is available today on Xbox Series X|S and day one on Game Pass. The roguelite follows Travelers into combat where one run flows straight into the next, supports up to four players together, and launched with cross-play so Xbox players can team up across platforms.
Other release dates landed throughout the show. The action-JRPG Edge of Memories launches November 5, 2026, the narrative mystery Hope in the City arrives November 10, and Once Human's biggest expansion yet, the Ocean Expansion: Isles of Abyss, launches October 22, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, included with Game Pass. Raji: Kaliyuga got an extended gameplay first look as the sequel pivots from the original's isometric view to a full third-person action-adventure set six years later, while Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement showed new gameplay ahead of its 2027 launch as a metroidvania set in 16th-century England from legendary producer Koji Igarashi.
Taken together, the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast was Xbox's clearest statement yet about its lineup for the rest of 2026 and into 2027, anchored by a holiday season built around Modern Warfare 4 and Fallout 76's new storyline, and a future lineup carrying some of the most anticipated Japanese releases on the platform. The full recap, including trailers for every title shown, was published by Xbox Wire on September 17.
