Thousands of anime fans who were headed to Los Angeles for a weekend of horse-girl idol concerts are getting refunds instead. Cygames has canceled both nights of the Umamusume LA concerts scheduled for October 22 and October 23 at the Peacock Theater, after the United States never approved the visas that would have let the voice cast into the country.
The shows were supposed to open the franchise's first world tour and mark its first concerts ever on American soil. Instead, the Umamusume LA concerts have become the most visible casualty of a visa backlog that is starting to eat into Japan's live entertainment calendar.
Seven months of paperwork, zero visas
Cygames did not file at the last minute. According to the organizers, the company began working with lawyers and promoters in the United States on the visa applications more than six months before the show dates. Then the calendar kept shrinking.
On October 18, the official Umamusume website and social media channels warned fans that the visas were still not approved, and promised a final decision by ten o'clock the following evening, Pacific time. The decision came back as a cancellation. In a statement, Cygames said it had coordinated repeatedly with everyone involved and explored every available option, but could not obtain the visas required for entry into the United States. It apologized to the fans it calls Trainers, both for the cancellation and for confirming the news so close to showtime.
Every ticket holder gets a refund, whether they bought seats in the room or streaming passes for home. Cygames added that it is looking into ways to make things up to fans who had already made travel plans for the Umamusume LA concerts, with details to be posted on the official event website later.
The timing stung most for the fans who had already booked flights and hotels around the Umamusume LA concerts. Cygames acknowledged that group directly, saying it is considering some form of response for Trainers who had planned to attend in person, though it offered no specifics and no timeline.
The voices are the show
A canceled flight is one thing. A concert with irreplaceable performers is another. The people scheduled to take the Peacock stage were the voice actresses themselves, the cast behind Tokai Teio, Oguri Cap, Haru Urara, Kitasan Black, Satono Diamond, and the rest. Those same women sing every song in the game and the anime, which is why there was no standby roster to call. Siliconera reported that the visa applications went in more than half a year before the concerts, a lead time that should have been comfortable.
For a sense of the scale of the loss, Umamusume: Pretty Derby is one of Cygames' biggest multimedia franchises, built on real-world racehorses reimagined as anime girls who race and pursue idol careers. The LA dates were announced in June as part of the world tour, following the tour's Tokyo performances. London, Seoul, and Yokohama are still on the itinerary, though none of those dates has been announced yet.
Same theater, same problem
The timing made it harder to dismiss as bad luck. Five days earlier, on October 17, the Peacock Theater hosted Kuro Games' Wuthering Waves To the New World concert, which hit the same wall when its singer Tarokiki ran into US visa trouble. Kuro Games found a replacement vocalist and went ahead, while offering refunds to fans who felt shortchanged, PocketGamer.biz reported.
Umamusume had no such option. A voice cast is the brand, and swapping in stand-ins would have defeated the purpose of the show. Two visa collapses, one week apart, at one venue, have turned a paperwork delay into a story about how thin the touring pipeline has become for Japanese acts trying to reach American stages.
The tour moves on without its American debut. For the Umamusume LA concerts, replacement performers were never a real choice, and the franchise will have to wait for a calendar where the visas arrive before the curtain does. Meanwhile, according to our earlier reporting, the Ghost of Tsushima anime adaptation slipped to 2028, and Studio Ghibli's Valley of Witches short extended its run into 2027.
