The most wanted Halloween decoration of the season is a six-foot-six animatronic bear with glowing eyes and a microphone. Spirit Halloween's life-size Freddy Fazbear animatronic, the mascot of Five Nights at Freddy's, costs just under five hundred dollars and is sold in stores only. When the retailer's flagship store in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey opened on August 1, the life-size animatronics sold out within minutes, according to Secret NYC, and Freddy was the season's most anticipated new arrival. Haunted Attraction Network calls it the priciest licensed piece in Spirit's 2026 animatronics collection, and its reporting has tracked the bear's strange journey since July.
A servo motor waves one of Freddy's arms while the other lifts a microphone. The body sways side to side on an inner spring, and the LED eyes light up with moving pupils. It plays video game-inspired audio, and Spirit lists it at six feet six inches at its tallest point. That mix of motion, light, and sound is exactly what short-form video rewards, which is why the Freddy Fazbear animatronic became a TikTok event before most fans ever saw one in person. Halloween has already taken over TikTok this month, and the season's costume formats are all over the feed, but a six-foot bear that performs is its own category of content. Walkthroughs of this year's Spirit lineup, like this full tour on YouTube, lead with Freddy. A pop culture tracker, Vadbav, flagged the five-hundred-dollar bear as breaking TikTok in early October.
Why resellers priced it six times higher
In the first days after the flagship opened, at least ten of the Freddy Fazbear animatronics sold on eBay. Most changed hands for between twenty-five hundred and thirty-eight hundred dollars plus shipping, which is six to seven times the store price, according to Haunted Attraction Network. One "in hand" listing drew seventy-four watchers and ten offers. Another sold for thirty-eight hundred dollars plus three hundred dollars in delivery. The low outlier still cleared eleven hundred dollars. When fans asked about restocks, Spirit Halloween said on X on August 6 that it was actively evaluating whether more inventory might become available, but that future restocks depended on production and logistics with its vendor. As of mid-October, the company's Freddy page still read "limited quantity available in select stores only."
The Freddy Fazbear animatronic is not an impulse buy, and the box alone explains the frenzy. It measures two feet eight inches wide, about two feet deep, and four feet eight inches tall, and it weighs fifty-five pounds, per Spirit. The retailer suggests bringing an SUV, minivan, pickup truck, large crossover, or station wagon with fold-flat seats, plus a second person to help with the lifting. There is no online option at all: no product page, no shipping. Spirit's site shows a store locator where the add-to-cart button would normally be, under a note that inventory is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Scarcity plus spectacle is a reliable formula, and the Freddy Fazbear animatronic has both.
The Hot Topic twist
Since the second week of October, shoppers have posted photos and videos of the Freddy Fazbear animatronic inside Hot Topic stores, according to Haunted Attraction Network, which verified the in-store photos. The crossover makes sense once you know the corporate story. Spencer Spirit Holdings, which owns Spirit Halloween and Spencer's, closed its purchase of Hot Topic, BoxLunch, and Her Universe on September 2, so the two chains now share an owner, though Hot Topic still runs independently. Here is the catch: Hot Topic's website does not sell the bear, and Spirit's page still describes it as available exclusively at Spirit Halloween. A search of Hot Topic's site in mid-October turned up two Five Nights at Freddy's costumes and a mask, but no bear. Finding one there comes down to luck and legwork, and the practical advice is to call your local store before making the trip.
Freddy is having a moment far beyond Halloween
The Freddy Fazbear animatronic arrived in the middle of a full Five Nights at Freddy's surge. Fortnite's Fortnitemares 2026 event launched a FNAF bundle on October 1 with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy for four thousand five hundred V-Bucks, according to Eneba. Universal ran a Five Nights at Freddy's haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights in 2025, at both its Orlando and Hollywood parks, based on the 2023 Blumhouse film, Spectrum News reported when it was announced. Next up, American Dream in East Rutherford, New Jersey is opening a permanent Freddy Fazbear's Pizza restaurant in 2027, developed with ScottGames, with two animatronic stage shows. Prank and stunt videos are thriving on the platform this month as well; the TikTok Boo trend turned one goofy face into a full prank format. None of those require a second person and a pickup truck.
For Spirit, the bear headlines this year's lineup, which leans hard on licensed horror. Kym Sarkos, the retailer's executive vice president, described the season's collection as introducing "new innovations like active response technology," according to Haunted Attraction Network. Spirit's other big licensed animatronic this year, an Alien Xenomorph that cost fifty dollars less than Freddy, sold out online back in August. Nothing else in the collection performs quite like a six-foot-six bear with a microphone, which is exactly why every sighting of the Freddy Fazbear animatronic becomes a video and every video sends more hunters into stores.
