The October 1 news quiz answers
Spoilers from here down. The October 1 news quiz answer key follows, with the reporting behind every letter.
One. b) More than sixty million. The Treasury's temporary rules let the government open Trump Accounts for eligible children under eighteen who hold Social Security numbers, no parent paperwork required. The Wall Street Journal reported that over sixty million additional children could be enrolled during 2026, on top of the seven to eight million already signed up, in the Journal's reporting on the new rules. One catch the October 1 news quiz has to flag: the one thousand dollar government deposit for children born between twenty twenty-five and twenty twenty-eight still has to be specifically elected by a taxpayer, so an automatic account does not automatically come with money in it.
Two. b) One pilot stabbed the other and apparently tried to crash the plane. NPR reported that Netanyahu said a passenger told him the plane went into a spin and began to plunge, at which point the passenger and a crew member broke into the cockpit and subdued the attacking pilot. The crew diverted to Tabuk in Saudi Arabia, no passengers were reported injured, and Saudi authorities took the suspected attacker into custody, according to NPR's full account. The airline said the motives are unknown and remain under formal investigation.
Three. b) A human rights report on violence in the West Bank. The New York Times reported that all but one Senate Democrat voted to advance a measure forcing the administration to produce a report examining violence by Israel in the West Bank, including the deaths of Palestinian American citizens, in the Times' Thursday roundup. The bid failed, but the near-unanimous backing showed how much sharper the party's posture toward Israel has become ahead of the November elections.
Four. a) A new four-star Autonomous Warfare Command. CNN reported that Hegseth announced the command, which will focus on AI robotics and autonomous weapons under a four-star general, with a target of going online in October 2027, according to CNN's report from Quantico. He also doubled his target for cutting general and flag officer positions to 20 percent, up from the 10 percent reduction he ordered in a May 2025 memo.
Five. a) Up about seventy percent on debut. Moneyview listed at fifty-five rupees on the NSE, roughly sixty-two percent above its thirty-four rupee issue price, and the shares traded about seventy percent above the issue price during the session, according to the day's market coverage. The IPO was subscribed nearly ninety-eight and a half times, and fellow debutant Hero Motors rose about ten percent.
Six. b) Free monthly transactions at other banks' ATMs drop from ten to five. Starting October 1, SBI Salary Package Account holders get five free monthly transactions at other banks' machines instead of ten, after which cash withdrawals cost twenty-three rupees plus GST, according to cinebuzznews. LPG consumers seeking subsidized refills will also need biometric Aadhaar authentication from October 1.
