Sundae Bar AI PLC, the London-listed enterprise AI company behind the sundae_bar platform, has beta-launched a personal AI agent called Sundae — and there is no app to download. According to the company's October 21 announcement, Sundae is a personal AI agent that users reach through plain text messages on iMessage, RCS on Android, or WhatsApp, where it can research topics, create content, build digital projects, and monitor information in the background on its own computer.

The launch marks the AIM-listed company's first move into the consumer AI market, repurposing infrastructure it originally built to evaluate thousands of AI agent submissions for its enterprise platform. The personal AI agent received 150 beta sign-ups almost immediately, which prompted the company to increase testing capacity; continued demand has since led to a waitlist.

No App Required: A Personal AI Agent That Lives in Your Messages

Most personal AI agent products demand a new interface — an app, a browser extension, or a dedicated chat window. Sundae skips that entirely. According to the announcement, users communicate with the personal AI agent through the messaging apps they already use, with no download and no new interface to learn.

Under the hood, the personal AI agent comes with its own computer, a browser, and persistent memory. That combination lets Sundae conduct research, create content, build digital projects, monitor information, and keep working on tasks in the background. It retains context between conversations and can proactively notify users when monitored information changes — a shift from repeatedly prompting a chatbot toward delegating ongoing tasks to a personal AI agent that keeps running after the conversation ends.

The design echoes a broader pattern in the agent economy: AI agents are increasingly defined by what they can do autonomously in the background rather than by the interface in front of them. Recent coverage has noted similar "persistent agent" thinking at the largest labs — from agents with their own cloud computers to enterprise agent suites that handle long-running workflows — and Sundae brings that pattern to consumers through the most familiar interface of all: the text thread. Born From an Agent-Testing Machine

What makes the launch notable is where the personal AI agent came from. To evaluate thousands of AI Skills and Agent submissions for its commercial platform, sundae_bar built an automated environment in which AI agents could operate computers, use browsers and tools, complete tasks, and have their performance assessed.

That infrastructure grew out of Subnet 121 (SN121), the company's AI development network on the Bittensor network, which lets developers worldwide compete to build and improve AI capabilities. Since launching SN121, the company has run 30 development challenges and received nearly 7,000 competing submissions. The technology refined through that process now forms the foundation of Sundae — a case of testing infrastructure for AI agents being recycled into a consumer product without requiring a separate technology platform.

The enterprise side of the business continues separately. The sundae_bar platform gives businesses a subscription-based interface for deploying AI agents across marketing, finance, research, and workflow automation, with more than 700 AI Skills and Agents already available. That dual-track model — one technology foundation, two distinct markets — is the company's stated strategy.

Enterprise Foundation, Consumer Experiment

Chief Executive Officer Jill Kenney described the thinking behind the move in the announcement: the company spent the past year building technology that lets AI do work rather than just answer questions, bringing that capability to businesses first and now to individuals. Kenney noted that Sundae emerged from testing infrastructure the company had already built, and said the focus remains on growing the enterprise business while exploring the consumer opportunity.

Sundae remains in beta. The company says it is focused on testing functionality, understanding user behaviour, and assessing commercial opportunities before committing further. Beta users can currently reach the personal AI agent through iMessage, RCS on Android, or WhatsApp, with further information available on the project's documentation site.

The launch also reflects where AI agent momentum is heading: toward always-on personal agents with real tooling behind them. Governments are already deploying dozens of prebuilt agents for public services, as TTEC Digital's 40+ Government AI Agents show, while the capital markets keep rewarding agent infrastructure at record scale — see OpenAI's $30B Raise Targeting a $1.25T Record Pre-IPO. Sundae's bet is that the winning consumer personal AI agent will be the one that never asks you to open it.
