Los Angeles designer Sergio Hudson has made his first children's collection, and he made it with OshKosh B'gosh. The Sergio Hudson OshKosh kidswear line, created in partnership with Harlem's Fashion Row, went on sale October 22 at carters.com and select retail stores, according to the announcement. It is a rare meeting of a red carpet name and a heritage children's brand, and it treats kids' clothes as design in their own right rather than as an afterthought.
A red carpet designer sizes down
Hudson is best known for dressing some of the most photographed women in America. He dressed Michelle Obama and Kamala Harris for the presidential inauguration proceedings, and his client list also includes Beyonce. His own label marked ten years with a recent fall show at the New York Public Library, reported by fashion press covering the brand. Kidswear is new ground for him, and he approached it through the children around him.
Hudson said the children in his life already show a clear sense of style and individuality, and he wanted pieces that let them express that and feel confident wearing it. That idea shaped the whole collection. Sarah Crockett, chief marketing officer of Carter's, Inc., said OshKosh has long treated play as a form of freedom, and that Hudson brings a fresh perspective to that legacy.
What the collection actually holds
The range reworks OshKosh classics through Hudson's eye for color and tailoring. The Vestbak and the hickory stripe, two signatures of the brand, return on coveralls and denim, cut for movement and built to be mixed and matched. The point, the announcement says, is a wardrobe kids can play in and choose from, not a set of miniature formal clothes.
Sizes run from baby through toddler to kids up to fourteen, with baby sizes from twelve to twenty-four months, toddler sizes from two to five, and kids' sizes from four to fourteen. Prices run from twenty-two to forty-five dollars. The collection is limited edition, so it will not be restocked as a permanent line once the initial run sells through.
The mix and match idea matters more in children's clothing than it does in adult fashion. Kids outgrow sizes quickly, and parents tend to favor pieces that work across several outfits instead of a single occasion look. A coverall that pairs with different tops, or denim that works for school and for weekends, stretches further than a one-off statement piece. Hudson's tailoring gives those everyday pieces a sharper shape without making them fussy, which is the balance the collection is trying to strike.
Why the partnership matters
Harlem's Fashion Row, the platform that connects major brands with designers of color, put the collaboration together. Its founder and chief executive, Brandice Daniel, said exceptional design has no boundaries, and called the collection an example of what happens when creativity meets opportunity. The group has built its name on opening doors that the fashion industry has historically kept closed, and this project puts one of its designers in front of family shoppers across the country.
For OshKosh, the Sergio Hudson OshKosh kidswear line is a first of its kind, the announcement says. Designer collaborations are a familiar move in adult fashion, where a big name can lift a whole season. In children's clothing they are far less common, which is part of why this one drew attention from fashion press within days of the announcement. Parents shopping for durable everyday clothes are not the usual audience for a designer known for inauguration gowns, and that mismatch is the point.
The collection lands as children's fashion borrows more freely from adult design, from workwear details to bolder color. Hudson's version keeps the practical side intact. The clothes are meant to be worn hard, mixed across outfits, and handed down, with tailoring and color doing the work that logos usually do. Shoppers can find the line at carters.com and select stores while the limited run lasts. FashionUnited also covered the launch, noting the same sizes, prices, and release date. More detail is available in the official announcement from OshKosh and Sergio Hudson.
