The Persona AI Assistant has its war chest. Zach Yadegari, the 19-year-old co-founder of calorie-tracking app Cal AI, has launched Persona, a new AI agent startup, and already raised $10 million, according to TechCrunch's report.
The round, announced October 8, 2026, was led by Vine Ventures, with participation from Z Fellows founder Cory Levy and Collective Global, reported by TechCrunch. Inc. reports that WHOOP and Eight Sleep also participated. The funding will cover AI computing costs, team expansion, and manufacturing ahead of planned wristband deliveries later this year, according to Inc.
A personal agent that starts in iMessage
Persona is a personal AI agent comparable to products like Instinct or Meta's Muse, according to TechCrunch. It currently lives as a free beta inside iMessage, where the company says it has a few thousand users. The agent is designed to handle routine tasks across services — booking travel, ordering food, arranging rides, taking notes, responding to emails and answering questions — without requiring users to open each app, as reported by TechCrunch.
Starting inside iMessage is deliberate. It gives the Persona AI Assistant access to a familiar interface without asking customers to buy unfamiliar hardware, and lets the company test task reliability and retention before asking anyone to wear a new device, according to analysis from TMC Insight.
For founders, Yadegari positions Persona as a chief of staff, secretary and executive assistant that can send invoices, draft emails and move meetings, as reported by Inc.
The $179 wristband and the privacy bet
The hardware component is what sets Persona apart. A $179 wearable band, expected to ship in December, gives the assistant a physical interface, reported by TechCrunch. Unlike continuously listening AI devices, Persona's band activates through a physical button or a wrist flick, and will not record ambient audio, Yadegari told TechCrunch.
The company does not run its AI model or store user data on the device. Instead, the model runs in Persona's cloud, and user information is encrypted in transit and at rest, with options available for deleting personal data, according to TechCrunch. The Persona AI Assistant is built with safeguards against phishing and prompt-injection attacks: it will not have access to users' credit card details, and purchases will require explicit approval processed through external providers such as Stripe Link, as reported by martechai.
The privacy framing matters because persistence raises the stakes. A system that drafts an occasional email carries one level of risk, while an agent that observes daily activity, recalls personal information and executes actions across services carries another, according to TMC Insight. Permissions, identity controls, data retention and visibility into completed actions are likely to become central product features as the category matures.
Yadegari told Inc. that the company's mission is to make computing seamless with human life, and that physical hardware is what allows it — a line that puts Persona squarely in the post-phone race alongside Bee, the wearable AI device Amazon acquired in 2025, as well as Rabbit and Meta's Muse.
From calorie photos to personal agents
Yadegari's track record is part of the bet. Before Cal AI, he built a gaming business in ninth grade and sold it for $100,000 at 16, according to TechCrunch. Cal AI then zoomed ahead of the older calorie app in the app store rankings before MyFitnessPal acquired it in March 2026 for an undisclosed sum; the app had generated over $30 million in annual revenue in under two years, MyFitnessPal told TechCrunch at the time.
Yadegari and his co-founders initially went to work for their new owner, but he left the bigger company in June and went straight to work on the next idea, he told TechCrunch. He is developing Persona with another co-founder whose identity has not yet been disclosed.
The inspiration came from his own experience moving from Long Island to Miami, according to Refresh Miami: suddenly responsible for scheduling appointments, managing emails and organizing everyday errands, he began thinking about an assistant that could handle those tasks. Preorders for the band opened in September, and TechCrunch reports the company has already brought in five figures in preorder revenue.
The company's business model also includes advertising, with sponsored results shown while the agent does shopping research, as reported by Vizaca — one of several open questions, alongside how much data a persistent agent should remember and who ultimately trusts it with their errands.
