PEAK Console Edition is the moment a year of PC-only suffering ends. The co-op climbing hit that took over streams last summer lands on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22, 2026, with full crossplay across every platform, according to Gematsu's report on the developers' announcement.

If you missed the phenomenon, here is the short version. You and up to three friends play lost nature scouts stranded on a mysterious island, and your only way off is to scale the mountain at its center. The climb is physics-based, the food is questionable, the mountain changes every day, and the proximity voice chat means your friends' screams fade with distance as they fall. It is equal parts teamwork exercise and friendship stress test, and PC players have been living it for more than a year.

From a one-month game jam to a console launch

The timeline behind the game is almost as unlikely as the game itself. PEAK started as a one-month game jam in Seoul in February 2025, built by three developers from Seattle studio Aggro Crab and four from Stockholm studio Landfall, working out of a rented apartment. The two studios, which now operate together under the name Team Peak, then went their separate ways before reuniting in Sweden in June to finish the game.

It launched on PC via Steam in June 2025 and became one of the year's genuine surprise hits. FullCleared reported that the game sold five million copies in under a month and has since passed more than eleven million, a run that puts it among the most successful independent releases of last year. Aggro Crab previously made Another Crab's Treasure and Going Under, while Landfall is the studio behind Content Warning and Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, so the pedigree for chaotic multiplayer comedy was already there.

What console players get on day one

Console buyers are not catching up to an old build. The developers say the console versions include every content update, biome, and item the game has received since launch, including the Final Ascent update that added an alternate ending. The console editions carry the same four biomes, the daily-rotating mountain, the stamina and injury systems, campfires, character customization, and the proximity chat that powered so much of the game's viral spread.

The headline feature for launch day is crossplay. Aggro Crab confirmed in a pinned post on its official X account that the game ships with full crossplay across all four platforms, with proximity voice chat enabled between them, as detailed in Pixel Herald's breakdown of the announcement. If you already own the game on Steam, you do not need to buy it again to play with friends who move to console. Custom-run rooms, where players can enable the option to physically kick each other off cliffs, carry over too.

The developers describe the pitch this way: "Scramble, scavenge, and scale your way to the PEAK in this co-op climbing game, where even the slightest mistake can spell doom for you or your fellow scouts." That slightest mistake is doing a lot of work. Falls, bad food, and exhausted stamina have ended countless runs just short of the summit, which is exactly why clips of the game travel so well.

The price and the physical edition

The digital console edition is priced at seven dollars, matching the spirit of the game's budget PC roots. A physical PlayStation 5 edition, distributed by Skybound Games, follows on December 9, 2026 at about twenty dollars and includes the game on disc, a passport kit with stickers, and a buddy code for a free digital copy to hand to a friend, according to FullCleared's report. Pre-orders are already available at retailers.

For Nintendo's new hardware, the timing is notable. The Switch 2 is still in its first year, and landing a proven multiplayer hit with crossplay is an early win for the console's indie lineup. For a PC platform that keeps setting player records, it is another sign that the biggest games now treat every screen as home turf.

The open question is whether a year-old PC hit can recreate its momentum on consoles in a crowded holiday window. The game's rise was driven by streams and friend groups discovering it together, and that formula does not automatically transfer to storefronts where players browse alone. But the ingredients that made it work, a low price, instant co-op comedy, and no platform walls between friends, are all intact.

PEAK Console Edition arrives Thursday, and the mountain does not care what controller you are holding. Pack light, watch your stamina, and think twice before trusting the friend holding the rope. Anyone planning to stream the climb might also want to check the latest gear for mobile creators, because proximity chat this funny deserves to be heard clearly.
