OPPO has struck one of the most consequential partnerships in the young AI-agent industry, announcing on October 13, 2026 that it will integrate Manus' agentic capabilities into its AI Mind Pilot assistant, according to the announcement distributed via Media OutReach Newswire. The deal brings general-purpose AI agents to mainstream smartphones for the first time at this scale, debuting on the upcoming OPPO Find X10 Series with ColorOS 17 — and it signals that the era of Agentic AI Smartphones has officially begun.
The collaboration embeds Manus' agentic AI directly into AI Mind Pilot's new Agent Mode. Instead of answering questions, the assistant understands a user's end goal, breaks it into multiple steps, selects the right tools, and delivers a finished result — working directly with files and photos stored on the device. For Agentic AI Smartphones to succeed, that kind of on-device, goal-oriented behavior is exactly what is needed, and OPPO is positioning the feature as the centerpiece of its ColorOS 17 software.
What Agent Mode Actually Does
OPPO described a travel-planning scenario to illustrate the capability. A user planning a trip asks AI Mind Pilot to organize the itinerary, and the agent finds flight tickets, hotel bookings, restaurant reservations, and attraction tickets scattered across different apps on the phone, organizes them, and combines them with online information into a personalized day-by-day itinerary — without the user manually gathering anything. The same engine can organize trip photos, locate specific images, or assemble files and web research into presentations, proposals, and portfolios from a single prompt, the company said.
That is the leap Agentic AI Smartphones are meant to deliver: from a chatbot that summarizes information to an agent that completes multi-step work across apps. Manus built its reputation on exactly the style of autonomous execution Agentic AI Smartphones require, and the partnership gives it distribution to hundreds of millions of OPPO device users. For the phone to function as a true agent, deep system-level integration matters, and OPPO's president of software engineering, Kai Tang, said the companies' goal is to make personal AI a natural part of everyday life and work.
Privacy and Control Built In
As agents move from providing information to acting on personal data, privacy becomes the decisive question — and the announcement addressed it head-on. ColorOS 17 uses on-device models to understand and organize relevant information locally. For local tasks such as finding, organizing, or renaming files and photos, the original content stays on the device and is not shared with Manus. When a task requires external processing, AI Mind Pilot asks for the user's explicit confirmation before any relevant content is uploaded or shared, according to the announcement.
Users keep control over what information is accessed, which actions are taken, and whether external processing is allowed on Agentic AI Smartphones. Through on-device processing and transparent authorization, OPPO and Manus aim to make Agentic AI Smartphones capable without compromising user choice. That architecture will be watched closely by competitors, because the trust model of Agentic AI Smartphones is still being defined — and the first platform to get privacy-by-default right gains a structural advantage.
Why This Deal Matters Now
The timing is no accident. Manus parent Butterfly Effect completed a funding round of more than $500 million on October 8, 2026, co-led by Boyu Capital and IDG Capital, as reported by Reuters. The raise was the company's first since Meta was forced to unwind its roughly $2 billion acquisition of Manus in April on orders from Beijing, and it valued the independent agent company as one of the most heavily backed AI startups in China. The Information reported in June that Manus' annualized revenue run rate had already surged to about $500 million, up from roughly $100 million when Meta agreed to the acquisition.
Five days after closing that war chest, Manus landed its biggest distribution partnership to date. The sequence tells the industry's story in miniature: well-funded agent platforms are racing to own the surface where users actually live, and for most of the world, that surface is the phone. Manus co-founder and CPO Tao Zhang said smartphones are central to people's daily lives, making them a natural platform for personal AI agents that complete multi-step tasks through simple, natural interactions.
The race is now joined on hardware, too. Agentic AI Smartphones will increasingly be judged not by benchmark scores but by how much work they can complete autonomously — booking, organizing, drafting, and reconciling across apps. OPPO's Find X10 Series, which the company said will make its global debut on October 21 in Mallorca, becomes the first flagship line to ship with a general-purpose agent platform baked into the operating system.
Expect rivals to respond quickly. Samsung, Apple, and Google have all invested heavily in on-device AI, but none has yet handed its system assistant to an independent agent platform at this depth. The OPPO-Manus partnership is the clearest signal yet that Agentic AI Smartphones are becoming a product category rather than a demo — and that the AI-agent ecosystem's next battleground is the device in your pocket.
