OlympusMute Mod Auto-Silences Asmongold's WoW Guild

The beta for World of Warcraft: Forever was supposed to be a fresh start for the long-running MMO. Instead, parts of it have been overrun by fans of streamer Zack "Asmongold" Hoyt, whose enormous Olympus guild has filled the game's public spaces with spam and slurs, according to 404 Media. One frustrated player stopped waiting for a fix. On September 23, a player named Solastro uploaded the OlympusMute mod to CurseForge. The addon automatically hides every message from anyone in a guild with "Olympus" in its name.

It goes further than a standard ignore list. The OlympusMute mod runs client-side, so it sidesteps the game's 50-name ignore cap entirely, and the muted players are never notified. According to the addon's description and Real Hacker News, it hides Say, Yell, Emote, Whisper, General, Trade, custom channels, guild, party, raid, raid warning, and instance chat from muted players, and it wipes their chat bubbles from the open world. It also auto-declines guild invites from muted guilds, plus group invites, duels, and trades from muted players, each toggleable. Once it identifies a player by targeting, nameplate, or a /who scan, it even scrubs their earlier messages from chat windows. A preview screenshot on the listing showed 361 players silenced, with guild tags climbing as high as Olympus XLI.

Why Solastro built it

Solastro told 404 Media that he used to be a big Asmongold fan. He said the trade chat is spammed with people trying to get near Asmongold or join his layer, and guild invite spam is everywhere because the streamer has encouraged his followers to invite as many people as possible to Olympus. Mobilizing thousands of fans at once has become a signature streaming move, from Kai Cenat's Wolverine marathon to QTCinderella opening Streamer Awards 2026 applications. He described the mod as a last resort for players who could not simply pick another server, since WoW Forever groups players by ruleset instead of realm.

The addon caught fire when World of Warcraft partner Morrigan shared it on X with the caption "i'm just gonna leave this here..", pulling in more than 300,000 views in a day, Real Hacker News reports. She later tagged Blizzard directly and wrote: "it's time to do something."

Asmongold's response

Asmongold noticed. On September 23, the streamer replied on X with a tongue-in-cheek post: "This is either a hate crime or racism, I'm not sure which one yet," he wrote. "Discrimination is a terrible thing and it's awful that Blizzard would allow something so disgusting." Sportskeeda reports that Solastro chimed in underneath the post with: "Hey that's my addon! Thanks for spreading the word."

He is not the only prominent streamer weighing in. Sodapoppin called players affiliated with Olympus "very spammy" and "very fanatical" individuals, according to Sportskeeda, adding that many of them are probably newer players and the annoyance may die down over time.

The guild controversy is the latest flare-up in a noisy beta. During a September 21 stream, Asmongold responded to players calling for him to be banned over the size of his following. "I would like to address the allegations that everybody else should quit their guild and join Olympus. They're true," he said, in a stream covered by Dexerto. "There are two groups of people in WoW Forever. There are the people who are in Olympus and the people who aren't in Olympus yet."

The frustration is not abstract. One player posted screenshots of offensive messages floating above characters in Stormwind, the game's main city, according to 404 Media. Another fan told Dexerto that they had to log off the day Asmongold went live because hundreds of followers swarming the city turned it into what they called "a 10fps fest."

Meanwhile, the OlympusMute mod keeps getting updated. The current 1.0.9 release on CurseForge adds a word filter that can hide messages containing any phrase the user picks, such as "asmon layer," counts how many messages it has hidden across a session and all time, stamps a "Muted by OlympusMute" line onto muted players' tooltips, and warns the user when they join a group with a muted player, since that player's party chat will stay hidden. The author has flagged the addon for the WoW Forever client 1.60.1 so it loads without errors.
