The Moosewala hologram tour kicks off tonight in Toronto, and it's a first: no Indian artist has ever gone on a hologram world tour before. Sidhu Moosewala, the Punjabi star who was shot dead in 2022, is set to "perform" at Scotiabank Arena, according to The Tribune.

The opening night of the Signed to God World Tour was first listed for October 8. According to The North News, the venue's listing now shows the show moved to October 9, with tickets showing 7 or 8 pm depending on the listing. Check your ticket before you head downtown.

What the Moosewala hologram tour actually is

This is not an AI trying to write new songs. Daily Sabah reports the production team says the goal is to recreate his presence onstage using existing footage and his original voice recordings, and that the project is happening with his family's support. The official tour site describes 3D holographic projections synced with his original vocals, cinematic visuals and stage effects.

The hologram won't carry the whole night. The Tribune reports his segment should run around 20 to 25 minutes of a show lasting nearly 100 minutes. Artists who collaborated with him are expected to fill out the rest, and DESIblitz lists Bohemia, Gulab Sidhu, Sunny Malton, AR Paisley and Raja Kumari in the announced line-up.

The Moosewala hologram tour is also a test case for the whole live music industry. Fans have seen holograms before, but rarely at arena scale for an artist whose fanbase is this young, this loyal and this online. Streams of his songs never really stopped after 2022, and that devotion is what promoters are betting on.

His dad is behind it

Moosewala's father, Balkaur Singh, told The Tribune the first phase will have 10 shows, and that he gave a promoter permission to run them. He, his wife and Moosewala's younger son, also named Shubhdeep Singh and nicknamed Nikka Sidhu, plan to attend the shows.

Balkaur also told Billboard India the idea predates his son's death. In his words, Moosewala "had started discussing concerts where he wouldn't necessarily have to be physically present, and that was when the idea of using hologram technology began to take shape." That framing matters, because the biggest question around posthumous tours is always whether the artist would have wanted it.

The tour dates and the 295 moment

After Toronto, News9live lists Vancouver on October 15, Calgary on October 19, New York on October 23, Houston on October 30 and Oakland on November 6. The official tour site also lists the UK, the UAE, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and India among planned markets, though The North News notes India's dates are still marked coming soon.

On top of the Moosewala hologram tour itself, tonight's show also carries a streaming-era twist. The Tribune says the video for his 2021 track "295" is set to premiere during the Toronto show, and the song has become the most-liked Punjabi song on YouTube with over 12.8 million likes. His team asked fans worldwide to send tribute clips, and selected ones will be woven into the video.

Why this one hits different

The Tribune notes similar tours have been staged for Tupac Shakur, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Roy Orbison. Moosewala's version is bigger in one way: his catalogue keeps growing. His family and team keep releasing songs he recorded before his death, and his 13th posthumous track, "Ghostface Killah", dropped last month.

Ticket prices are not small either. JamBase lists Toronto seats from $182 up to more than $1,900, so this is a premium night out for a lot of fans. It also puts Toronto at the center of Punjabi music this week, which is a big deal for the city's huge South Asian community. The real test is tonight. If the hologram lands and the room feels like a tribute rather than a gimmick, expect more artists' families to look at this model. If it feels hollow, the Moosewala hologram tour will become the cautionary tale. Either way, Gen Z fans who grew up on his music will be the ones deciding, and they'll be posting about it by midnight.
