The people who built the press release distribution business are betting its successor will be run by agentic AI agents. MediaClaw, a new agentic AI platform co-founded by Marketwire veterans, announced on October 16 that it will debut at the PRSA ICON conference in Orlando, where its specialized agents will handle the full public relations workflow — from researching companies to writing materials, securing approvals, and conducting personalized media outreach.
The launch marks one of the first attempts to productize AI agents for the communications industry end to end. According to the company's announcement on GlobeNewswire, the platform brings a family of specialized agents that research organizations in any industry or language, write and edit press materials, gather approvals, check compliance, compile real-time media databases, manage outreach, and analyze results — work that today consumes most of a PR agency's billable hours.
Agents that research, write, pitch, and report
MediaClaw describes the platform as an "agentic PR operating system" in which each agent owns a stage of the PR lifecycle. According to the company's announcement, the research agents read and synthesize public filings, technical white papers, websites, and PDFs into company backgrounders, briefing documents, and press releases — across languages and industries.
The writing and approval layer runs source material through customizable PR strategies, trends, and company culture to produce first drafts, then orchestrates the editing and approval process. Reported by IT Tech Pulse, the platform personalizes pitches by integrating recent social media posts and stories, confirms journalist contact information through multiple sources, and carries on the conversation under the user's own name and email through a decision.
The enterprise tiers add a compliance mode that flags issues against regulatory bodies including the SEC, CTFC, FDA, and FTC, according to the announcement. Coverage agents then track media mentions by company, product, topic, or keyword, send real-time alerts, and generate reports with sentiment analysis by story and timeframe.
Veterans of the press-release era build the agentic successor
MediaClaw is led by Marketwire co-founder Michael Shuler as CEO, with fellow Marketwire co-founder Michael Terpin as chairman and chief strategy officer, and founding CTO Brad Rutten as chief architect. According to the GlobeNewswire release, Terpin said the team created a multi-billion-dollar industry bringing the press release into the content mainstream through internet distribution, and now plans to lead in agentic media intelligence and PR automation as intelligence becomes the largest addressable market. Shuler added that PR results are highly rewarding but the process still involves too much manual work, framing the company's mission as making world-class PR results affordable through agentic AI automation. CommPro founder Fay Shapiro and Transform Group president Xenia von Wedel serve as advisors.
The lineage matters: the same team that industrialized press release distribution now argues that distribution was the manual part worth automating away. As reported in the GlobeNewswire announcement, MediaClaw keeps humans in charge of decisions while agents work around the clock, and each campaign's results feed back into the next — a learning loop rather than a one-shot blast.
Pricing, rollout, and where this fits
The platform ships in three tiers, according to the company. The standard offering, aimed at freelancers and one-person PR departments, includes one login and one agent for $1,000 per month. The team product bundles three logins and five agents starting at $3,000 per month, while enterprise packages offer unlimited users and agent swarms from $5,000 per month. The platform is currently in private beta with invitation-only access; the company plans to onboard its first 100 customers in Q4 2026 and reach capacity for 1,000 simultaneous users by Q1 2027. The public debut begins with a keynote, "The Future of PR is Agentic AI," on October 18 at the Orlando World Center Marriott.
MediaClaw's arrival extends a fast-moving pattern across the agent economy: specialized agent fleets are colonizing knowledge-work functions one vertical at a time. Similar platforms have recently targeted legal document work, as seen in deployments at major law firms documented in coverage of Hogan Lovells and Cadwalader, and B2B prospect research, as with the fleet approach at Floqer. Public relations, an industry built on research, writing, and relationship management, may be one of the most natural fits of all — and a cautionary test of whether agents can earn trust in a business where trust is the product, making MediaClaw's debut a real-world experiment in whether these agentic AI agents can handle judgment-laden, relationship-driven work.
