The Lisa Press Play EP is officially here, and the Blackpink star is treating it like a movie premiere. The six-track project dropped at midnight on Friday, October twenty-third, alongside a spy-thriller music video for lead track "Tarantino," according to Yonhap News Agency. It is her first release in one year and eight months.
A Six-Track Film You Can Stream
The Lisa Press Play EP runs six songs: "Tarantino," "Sawadika," "V12," "Cobra," "Cut U Off" and "Sweat." Yonhap notes it is her first solo EP, following her debut full-length album Alter Ego, which arrived in February of last year. The release came out through Lloud and RCA Records, per Billboard.
The title is the whole pitch. On the lead track, she sings, "It's a movie, baby, come and press play," a line Billboard highlighted in its coverage. The idea is that the tracklist plays out like a film, with each song setting a different scene. Before the drop, The Korea Herald reports, she hosted a listening party in Seoul's Seongsu-dong neighborhood on Thursday, built around a vintage Hollywood theater concept so fans could hear all six tracks early.
Inside the Tarantino Music Video
The "Tarantino" visual is three and a half minutes of pure action, directed by Grammy-winning filmmaker James Mackel, according to Billboard. Lisa moves through a hotel with a mission: get a note to her favorite director, Quentin Tarantino. Standing in her way are villains of every kind.
Billboard describes her leading a choreographed routine with the hotel's chambermaids and bellboys before throwing punches and kicks at kitchen staff. The video ends with the director receiving a mysterious red letter slipped under his door. Like a classic Tarantino device, the letter never gives away its secrets. Billboard also points out a fun product cameo: she autographs a limited-edition PlayStation controller she helped design for a fan.
UPI adds that Tarantino himself never appears on screen, but the final moments imagine him reading a script titled "Her" starring Lisa. That wink at a future film role fits her recent move into movies, since her documentary Always Lalisa premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year, according to The Korea Herald.
The Sawadika Momentum Behind It
This Lisa Press Play EP arrives on the back of a very strong run. The earlier single "Sawadika," filmed in her hometown of Bangkok, pulled in more than seventy million YouTube views in its first day, her agency says, as reported by The Korea Herald. The agency calls it the biggest first-day total for a music video released this year.
On the charts, "Sawadika" debuted at number sixty-nine on the Billboard Hot 100 and number twenty-three on the Billboard Global 200 in September, per Billboard. Yonhap says that Hot 100 debut set a new personal best for her as a solo act. Her debut album Alter Ego, meanwhile, peaked at number seven on the Billboard 200.
She also performed "Sawadika" at the MTV Video Music Awards last month, where she won the Best Pop award for "Dream," a track from Alter Ego. Taken together, the awards win, the chart debut and the viral video set up this new EP as a victory lap with a bigger swing attached.
Why This Release Matters for K-pop Solo Acts
Blackpink members have each carved out separate solo lanes, and Lisa is leaning hard into a global pop identity that still celebrates Thai roots. The Bangkok-shot video, the Thai greeting in the title of "Sawadika" and the cinematic branding show a plan to build a world around each release rather than just drop songs.
That strategy matters because the audience for a solo K-pop star now stretches well beyond fandom. A video that plays like a short action film gets shared by film fans, gamers and casual listeners alike. The PlayStation tie-in pushes that crossover even further, and the Tarantino theme gives movie fans a reason to click even if they have never streamed a Blackpink song.
For anyone catching up, the move is simple: start with "Tarantino" and its video, then work backward to "Sawadika." Fans who want more K-pop and music coverage can browse the music section for the latest releases and chart news.
What to Watch Next
The next big test is the chart debut. Billboard's tracking week for the EP began on release day, so the first sales and streaming numbers should show how far the Lisa Press Play EP can climb compared with Alter Ego, which reached the top ten. Nothing has been confirmed yet, so any early predictions remain just that.
Whatever the numbers say, the rollout has already done its job. The release has a clear concept, a viral-ready video, a hit single and a major award behind it. For a pop star who built her name on dance breaks and fearless style, turning an EP into a movie trailer is a bold, very on-brand move.
