Grand Theft Auto VI could reach PC far sooner than Rockstar fans expect. The studio plans to launch GTA 6 PC in the first quarter of 2027, GamesBeat reported on October 13, citing four industry sources familiar with its plans. That would put the PC version on shelves sometime between January and March, less than five months after the game lands on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on November 19. Rockstar did not respond to a request for comment before the report went live, and neither Rockstar nor parent company Take-Two Interactive has officially announced a PC version.
If the report holds, the wait would be the shortest in Rockstar's modern history. Grand Theft Auto V launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 and did not reach PC until April 14, 2015, a gap of about nineteen months that included three delays. Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived on consoles in October 2018 and on PC in November 2019, more than a year later. By comparison, a first-quarter 2027 release would bring GTA 6 PC barely a season after the console debut, as TechSpot reported.
A break with Rockstar tradition
The reported timeline runs against the studio's own public messaging. In May, Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick told Bloomberg that Rockstar "always starts on console" because it needs to serve its core audience first. In the same interview, he acknowledged that PC can account for 45 to 50 percent of sales on some titles. The company has never confirmed a PC edition of GTA 6, and officially the game remains listed only for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.
Other signals point the same direction. In April, the X user DetectiveSeeds said three former Rockstar employees had pointed him toward a February 2027 PC target, which fits inside the window GamesBeat now describes. Take-Two's release slate for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027 lists GTA 6 alongside one unnamed "platform extension," wording that leaves room for a PC port without naming one. Reporting has put the game's development budget above one billion dollars, with first-week revenue forecasts near five billion, according to Softonic, giving Take-Two every reason to widen the audience quickly. A PC launch a few months after consoles would let the company capture two launch windows inside a single fiscal year.
Why PC matters to Rockstar now
Leaked internal data helps explain why consoles still come first. Analytics dumped by the group ShinyHunters after Rockstar ignored a ransom demand showed PC accounting for 11 percent of GTA Online's weekly active users but only 3 percent of its bookings, or about thirty cents of spending per user each week. PlayStation 5 users generated roughly one dollar and twenty-nine cents per user per week, according to the figures cited by Dot Esports. Those numbers suggest consoles are where Take-Two sees its core paying audience.
There is also the roleplay factor. In August 2023 Rockstar acquired Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM, the platforms that power dedicated roleplaying servers for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. That scene lives almost entirely on PC, and an earlier PC release would give Rockstar a head start on building GTA Online's long-term successor where its most dedicated community already is.
The PC edition would almost certainly arrive as the technically superior version. When GTA V finally reached PC, Rockstar shipped 4K resolution, 60 frames per second and triple-monitor support, calling it the most technically advanced version of the game. PC players have historically been willing to buy Rockstar titles a second time for those upgrades, and a shorter gap compresses that second sales wave into the months when the game's momentum is highest.
GTA 6's launch run-up has crowded out almost every other games story this autumn. Elsewhere in the industry, Nintendo has reassured players that physical games are staying on the Switch 2, while Character.AI's collapse ended with its assets sold to Disney, two reminders of how quickly the games business is being reshaped.
For now, everything except the console date is unconfirmed. Rockstar has said nothing about a PC edition, and launch plans can slip. But four separate sources telling the same story, an old leak pointing the same way, and a fiscal calendar with a gap shaped like a port are more than PC players have had this early. The wait for GTA 6 PC after November 19 may be measured in months rather than years, as GameFront reported.
