CHVRCHES are coming back. The Glasgow trio of Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty has announced CHVRCHES new album All The King's Men, the band's fifth studio record, due out on January 22, 2027. The news ends one of the longest silences of the band's career and arrives with a full package: a new single, a tour spanning two continents, and a sound the band says was rebuilt from the ground up. For longtime fans, the CHVRCHES new album announcement marks the moment a group that helped define a decade of synth-pop steps back into the light.
It has been a long road to get here. All The King's Men is the band's first record since Screen Violence, which came out in 2021 and was written largely at a distance during the pandemic. Since then the trio has stayed deliberately quiet, touring behind that record and then stepping away for what turned out to be years. The return was signaled last month with Roses, a biting single that hinted at a moodier direction and closed with a line commanding the listener's undivided attention. Fans heard the reset immediately, and the CHVRCHES new album rollout has been gathering speed ever since.
A Glasgow record, made in person
The biggest change this time was the room the band worked in. Instead of trading files remotely, the three of them wrote and recorded in Glasgow over a series of intense three-week sessions, together in the same city for the first time in years. According to NME, the eleven songs draw on British and Scottish culture and history, a turn the band traced to years spent away in the United States and coming home again. Doherty spent long spells back in Scotland and found himself steeped in the films of Ken Loach and the darker corners of UK music. Mayberry sharpened her storytelling after her solo detour. Cook, still based at home, drifted away from electronics toward acoustic, folk-leaning ideas. The touchstones they cite run from Massive Attack and PJ Harvey to the Scottish folk guitarist Bert Jansch and the Incredible String Band, and the band describes the result as its most fearless record while still sounding like itself.
The break was not idle. After touring for their last record into 2023, the members scattered into projects of their own. Mayberry released her solo debut, Vicious Creature, in 2024. Doherty formed the electronic project The Leaving and put out his own material. Cook worked on music outside the band. contactmusic reports that all three returned with their own sets of influences and their own reasons for wanting the CHVRCHES new album to feel like a genuine leap rather than a continuation. The deliberate stop, the band has said, was what made the reunion possible at all.
Charity warm-ups, then a world tour
Before the album arrives, CHVRCHES will play two intimate charity shows, one in Glasgow on October 26 and one in London on October 29. Both sold out instantly after years of waiting. Then comes the full run: a North American tour opening in Philadelphia on February 13, moving through Brooklyn, Washington, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Toronto, across the Midwest and on to Vancouver, Seattle, Portland and Oakland. The British and Irish leg follows in spring, with shows in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee, Dublin on the bill, and dates in Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Norwich and London. Presales open October 27 in North America and October 28 in the UK and Ireland, with general sale on October 30. The CHVRCHES new album tour keeps the focus on the places the music now addresses, the trio's home ground and its biggest stages.
One quiet detail matters to how the whole thing is being run. ScottishNews notes the record is coming out on the band's own imprint, which puts the timing, the framing and the terms of the return in the band's own hands. That autonomy shows in the rollout: charity shows first, then arenas and theaters on their own schedule. All The King's Men includes Roses alongside tracks like Evil, Adore You, Royal Blue, Conman and Faith In Flying. After six years away, the CHVRCHES new album plays as a restart made on their terms, in their city, with the volume up.
