Generic Everything is finally here. The new Chase & Status album dropped Friday, October 9, and the London drum and bass duo packed it with some of the loudest names in UK rap, grime and dance music. According to Clash, the record is out now on streaming, with a big tour set for spring 2027.
Who is on Generic Everything
The guest list is the headline. MusicSuey reports that the 10-track album features J Hus, Little Simz, Skrillex, Giggs, D Double E, Blanco, Col3trane, Debbie, Saam Sultan, Finesse Kid and Ledbyher. That spans grime, drill, rap and dance in one record.
According to Beatportal, Little Simz takes the mic on "Carnage," Giggs lends his unmistakable delivery to "Timber," grime pioneer D Double E steps up for "Levels," Debbie features on "Gone Too Far," and Skrillex joins on "Essa Ta Quente." J Hus and IRAH feature on the lead single "Disgruntled."
Saul Milton and Will Kennard, the two producers who make up the duo, built the album themselves. Beatportal also notes that all 10 instrumentals are available to buy exclusively on Beatport, which is a gift for DJs who want to remix or mix them live.
The idea: refuse to sound the same
The title is the concept. In an introductory note quoted by MusicSuey, the duo said the album is "about resisting the pressure to become the same as everyone else." They described the cube-shaped visual motif as a symbol of the pressure "where original ideas are squeezed into the same shape," in a world "shaped by AI, algorithms and endless content."
That message lands hard for anyone whose feed feels like the same ten sounds on repeat. Instead of chasing one trend, the album bounces around. Clash says it blends the duo's high-energy drum and bass with dubstep, Brazilian baile funk, road rap and more.
The Skrillex track is the clearest example. When it was previewed, Stereoboard described it as stepping away from their trademark sound to explore Brazilian rap and funk influences, with bouncing breakbeats and heavy 808s.
Singles and how the rollout went
This was a slow burn. According to D-N-B.co.uk, three tracks came out as singles before the album: "Disgruntled" on July 24, "Gone Too Far" on August 26 and "Essa Ta Quente" on September 8. The album itself came out under exclusive licence to Warner Music UK.
The duo come in on a hot streak. Banquet Records notes that "Baddadan" spent over 15 weeks in the UK Top 10 and went Platinum, while "BACKBONE" featuring Stormzy became their first UK Number One single. They also picked up a BRIT Award for British Producer of the Year.
The 2027 tour
If the album is the story, the tour is the sequel. Clash says the record will be followed by a massive spring 2027 run, ending with two shows at The O2 in London on April 2 and 3. Beatportal lists the EU and UK dates as running from February 18 to April 3.
DJ Mag reported earlier that the UK leg includes the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on March 8, Co-op Live in Manchester on March 19, and the Utilita Arena Birmingham on March 26. Fans in Leeds also have a launch DJ set on November 13, according to D-N-B.co.uk.
Should you press play?
Albums like Generic Everything are a reminder that big collaborations can still feel fresh. Instead of one guest verse bolted onto a club track, the duo built each song around the personality of the artist, from Little Simz's layered choir to Giggs on "Timber." That gives the record a mixtape energy that rewards a full front-to-back listen.
If you like your music loud, collaborative and a little chaotic, yes. The Financial Times called the album a genre-spanning, full-tilt attack, a pretty good summary of what the duo do best. Start with "Carnage" for the Little Simz choir, then jump to "Essa Ta Quente" to hear Skrillex go Brazilian.
