History was written in Chicago on Saturday night. With another effortless triple-double, Nikola Jokic climbed past Oscar Robertson into sole possession of second place on the NBA's all-time list.
The Denver Nuggets defeated the Bulls 136-120. Jokic finished with 22 points, 17 assists, and 14 rebounds. It was his 182nd career triple-double.
The Historic Night
This was Jokic's 19th triple-double of the 2025-26 season. It was his second in as many games. The three-time MVP and eight-time All-Star continues to redefine what a center can do.
'He is a legendary player,' Jokic said of Robertson, who became the first player to average a triple-double for a full season in 1961-62. 'Any player who steps into this league knows he's a global legend.'
Now Jokic stands alone in second place. Only Russell Westbrook's 207 triple-doubles remain ahead.
What They're Saying
Nuggets coach David Adelman has watched Jokic's entire prime. He joined the organization in 2017, Jokic's third season. He still cannot believe what he sees.
'When your center gets 17 assists in a game -- that just doesn't happen,' Adelman said. 'Unless it's him. It's absolutely unbelievable what he's done.'
Jamal Murray scored 24 points alongside Jokic. He believes the best is still ahead.
'He's got a lot of that left,' Murray said. 'It's going to be a Usain Bolt record when he sets it. He's going to have that for a long time.'
The Exclusive Club
Only three players in NBA history have ever averaged a triple-double across an entire season. Westbrook did it four times. Jokic has done it twice. Robertson did it once.
That is the company Jokic keeps now. At age 30, he is averaging 29.1 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 10.4 assists this season. He is on pace for his third career triple-double average.
What's Next
Jokic turns 31 on February 19. At his current pace of roughly 15 triple-doubles per season, he could catch Westbrook's 207 within two years.
The record once seemed untouchable. Now it feels inevitable.
